The Community:


Our congregation is located in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Henryetta is a thriving community (population 5,640 – U.S. 2020 Census) located along Interstate 40 and the Indian Nation Turnpike, making it a major crossroads for the United States. Henryetta is conveniently located near metropolitan cities such as Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Shawnee and McAlester in Oklahoma as well as Fort Smith, Arkansas and Dallas, Texas. Many of the residents call Henryetta home and commute to those cities to work every day. Henryetta offers friendly hometown charm with lots of amenities. A vibrant main street is the heart of Henryetta. Founded as a town in 1901, Henryetta’s downtown is lined with nine blocks of historic buildings and shops still in use today. Henryetta provides numerous shopping and dining opportunities for those living within the city limits as well as the thousands who live in neighboring communities that make up a nearly 30-mile trade area. Residents enjoy several city parks and fitness trails, a 10-acre recreational lake with an array of public facilities, a nine-hole golf course and country club, great schools, year-round youth sports programs and activities, and so much more. The Congregation:


The Henryetta Church of Christ is an active congregation of God’s people meeting for worship services on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and Wednesday evenings. Our physical address is: 413 W. Broadway Street, Henryetta, OK 74437. We are a group of believers in Jesus Christ, united in faith and fellowship, and always striving to do God's will and make a difference in our community. We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God. This is our only source of doctrine. We believe that eternal life is available to those who trust Christ as their Lord and Savior. Those willing to obey Christ and obtain eternal life should repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized in Him for the forgiveness of their sins. We are a church family that desires to grow both spiritually as well as numerically as a congregation.

  • In addition to a full-time youth minister vacancy, we have a full-time pulpit minister, two elders, five deacons, and many enthusiastic members who volunteer their time and talents generously.

  • We are blessed with a modern facility, and our worship attendance is regularly over 115.

  • We have Bible classes for all ages every Sunday morning, and Wednesday evening. We believe as a church that children are most important and work with parents to teach them about Christ, His plan for their life, and the salvation that is found in Him.

  • Our congregation makes a priority of serving others. In doing so, we hold a monthly community food bank and provide food every Friday to low-income children in our area schools. We support a prison ministry, and sponsor ministers in training during their education.

The Position:


The Henryetta Church of Christ is searching for a Full-Time Youth Minister. We seek a man who is capable of imparting vision for our youth program to help us grow and who possesses relational skills with students, parents, and staff. The responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to: organizing youth activities, teaching, preaching, fellowship, discipleship, evangelism, and counseling. The purpose is to help our youth learn how to glorify God in word, worship, and in their daily lives. Please see the Job Description (below) for a more complete list of job responsibilities. The compensation package is negotiable depending on education and experience.

The Candidate:


We are looking for a Christian man with a maturing relationship in Christ, excellent teaching and communication skills, and a passion for working with youth to join us in the ministries of the Henryetta Church of Christ. The candidate must have a strong faith and commitment to serving the Lord’s Church as a youth minister. He must possess excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate an ability to lead Bible studies, plan activities, communicate ideas, and use time effectively. He must be able to organize and lead all activities, functions, and special events related to the church’s youth program. He must be able to teach and preach, clearly and logically, rightly handling the word of God. He must have the ability to communicate well, while keeping youth and parents informed and involved. This is a full-time ministerial position assigned within the Henryetta Church of Christ to serve the Lord with a passion and sincere love for God in the area of youth ministry. This ministry is to promote growth in relationship with the Lord, relationships with one another within the youth group, and outreach to the lost. The purpose is to help our youth learn how to glorify God in word, worship, and in their daily lives. The youth minister will work within the vision and mission of the Henryetta Church of Christ as a member of the ministry team, under the direction of the eldership, and in cooperation with the pulpit minister and deacons as part of the congregational leadership team. His primary area of responsibility is the edification and guidance of the youth group through biblical teaching and example. He will also provide leadership for planning and coordinating of all activities, functions, and special events related to the youth program of the Henryetta Church of Christ. He is expected to be the leader and to provide the day-to-day guidance necessary to get the most and best results from the youth program. He is to facilitate youth ministry planning and keep the elders advised. His life should be a model that demonstrates he is a faithful Christian, husband and/or father (if applicable); and he must set a proper example of Christian behavior at all times.


Responsibilities:

  • Leading and organizing effective youth programs. Implementing fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities.

  • Teaching teen classes and developing 6th-12th grade students into life-long members of the faith equipped to apply biblical values to everyday situations.

  • Providing opportunities for students to put into practice what they have learned (e.g., service projects, retreats, camps).

  • Planning and supervising youth activities (e.g., devotionals, game nights, meals, trips and outings, church camp, Vacation Bible School, local and regional youth rallies).

  • Recruiting, training, and supervising volunteer youth staff with diverse talents and personalities.

  • Managing funds wisely that are provided by the congregation and managing student fees for events and trips in a timely fashion.

  • Building relationships with each young person within the congregation and fostering the development of a cohesive youth group.

  • Providing counseling and spiritual guidance to youth on an individual basis; using best judgment on when, where, and how to administer the counseling and guidance. (Information shared in private, with the youth minister will be shared with the eldership if deemed necessary for the health of the congregation, the student, or their family.)

  • Communicating regularly with students and parents, keeping them informed of ongoing activities. Keeping parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement.

  • Encouraging teens to participate in the worship and activities of the church. Integrating youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally generational; striving to unite with and complement other ministries.

  • Being accountable to the elders, and providing status reports to the elders concerning contacts, activities, issues, concerns, and needs.


Expectations:

  • Dedicating approximately 40 hours per week directing youth activities (this includes Wednesdays, Sundays, and any other time to develop and mentor youth).

  • Establishing written goals for the overall youth ministry program and having a detailed plan on how to accomplish and reach goals each year—reviewing with the elders prior to implementing.

  • Growing the youth ministry in a meaningful way. This includes spiritual development and biblical knowledge of the youth group in a way that can also lead to numerical growth.

  • Attending all scheduled church services and fellowships and ensuring his family participates as a family unit (if applicable) within the congregation.

  • Arriving prior to the beginning of any scheduled youth event to ensure necessary support staff and supplies are in place.

  • Remaining after any scheduled youth event long enough to ensure all youth have departed from the event safely.

  • Attending various sporting events and other programs in which congregational youth are participating.

  • Staying current with youth ministry practices by attending youth/leadership conferences, studying effective youth group practices through literature, and seeking out ways to professionally grow as a youth minister.

  • Remaining doctrinally sound and refraining from being identified with either ultra-conservative or liberal elements in the church.

  • Spending at least 1 hour each day in Bible study and prayer for personal spiritual growth.

  • Advising the elders of any special problems, issues and/or conflicts within the youth group.

  • Participating in an annual performance evaluation with the eldership.


Qualifications:

  • Be a member of the Church of Christ.

  • Be one who exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God, teachable spirit, and healthy family life.

  • Be one who has strong faith and commitment to serving the Lord’s Church as a youth minister.

  • Be one who is passionate about youth ministry, loves young people, and has a passion for evangelism and outreach, both personally and at the ministry level.

  • Be one who possesses excellent interpersonal skills (both verbal and written) as well as a demonstrated ability to lead Bible studies, organize activities, communicate ideas, and use time effectively.

  • Be an engaging teacher, with a strong biblical and theological background, who agrees that scripture is his guide for the organization and function of the church

  • Be willing to preach and teach in any capacity deemed necessary by the elders.

  • Be a self-motivated leader, capable of imparting vision for youth ministry and possessing relational skills with students, parents, and staff.

  • Be able to create and execute a long-term vision of the Henryetta Church of Christ youth ministry.

  • Be one who possesses (or will obtain) a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for operating the church bus.


Structure:

  • The Henryetta Church of Christ is committed to the restoration plea of fundamental New Testament authority and the unity of all believers.

  • Within the Church of Christ fellowship, the Henryetta Church of Christ would likely be considered “right-of center” doctrinally, though not radical in any direction.

  • Our congregation has a good mixture of ages, including people from all backgrounds united in faith.

  • The youth minister will work under the oversight of the elders and in collaboration with the pulpit minister and deacons.

  • The pulpit minister will serve as a mentor, providing guidance and support as needed.

  • Our current youth programs include summer Bible camp, Vacation Bible School, Sunday morning and Wednesday evening Bible classes, youth devotionals, and participation in areawide youth rallies.
